Vincenzo De Stefani (1859-1937), a pupil of Napoleone Nani at the Accademia Cignaroli in Verona, he improved himself in Rome with Cesare Maccari. On his return to Verona, the artist began to exhibit with his first master. After his first landscapes and genre works, he stood out for the realistic charge he developed in the Veronese area, inspired at the same time by contemporary Lombard painting. He then moved permanently to Venice, where he exhibited at every edition of the Biennale, gaining widespread acclaim. "The Yellow Handkerchief" of 1904, despite its simplicity, is a work of great freshness and immediacy.
