Panaji, India

Like her father, Ângela had a keen interest in outdoor painting and capturing the everyday rituals of rural India. Among these works, Town Scene depicts the existence in a small town, where simple folk perform their daily tasks while the neighbours pass by or sit for a brief conversation.
The enormous influence her western academic training and A.X.T. aesthetics had in her early years can still be seen in this impressionist depiction of a countryside setting. Through the use of shade and light, Ângela highlights the centre of the scene, where two men are seated side by side under the bright sun light. The artist’s fascination with a vibrant earthy palette is palpable and together with rich brushstrokes add texture and movement to an otherwise ordinary scene.
