  • About Creator: Accompanying his father, a farmer who attended cantorias (improvised verse duels) in his spare time, Azulão became enchanted by cordel literature as a boy. He memorized an entire pamphlet and, as a reward, received a viola from his father. By the age of 16, he was already accompanying singers at home and around the neighborhood. Later, in Rio de Janeiro, he achieved financial success with the pamphlet A morte de Getúlio Vargas [The Death of Getúlio Vargas].
