Biography:
John French joined The Age newspaper as a 19 year old cadet in 1969. He completed a four year cadetship and went on covering all types of major assignments; including the Australian Open tennis, the Australian Football League (AFL), a couple of Commonwealth Games, and a United Nations Middle East trip including Egypt. In 1979, John became pictorial coordinator / deputy picture editor, and in 1984 the photographic manager. He survived The Age until the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and then on to News Limited's suburban group Leader as a group Pictorial Editor, with 41 photographers. John retired to the Gold Coast, Queensland in 2012.
