Untitled (1996-1997) by Roy LichtensteinUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

Roy Lichtenstein became famous thanks to the plot of his popular comic strips, highly present in his work, a classic of pop art.

Today we can read in them a prophetic anticipation of today’s pixels.

Cantata (2013) by Susana SolanoUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

Susana Solano’s work is a tribute to Universitat Pompeu Fabra’s philosopher and professor Eugenio Trias. 20 metres of perforated stainless steel so that this beautiful apothegm of the only Spanish Nietzsche award can be read as a frieze.

“To write, to paint, to create or to produce forms, masks: that is to live again and to live on a higher plane… “.

UPF Art Track begins in the Roger de Llúria building, an old military barracks transformed by the acclaimed architects Josep Maria Martorell, Oriol Bohigas and David MacKay into a monumental secular cathedral.

Helmet (1887)Universitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

This helmet used to preside over the main door of the Jaume I barracks. Evoking that of King James I, one of whose originals is kept in the Royal Armoury of Madrid, is reproduced in the gate of the Ciutadella Park designed by Antoni Gaudí a few years before the Universal Exhibition of 1888.

In this archive picture we can see the barracks before their metamorphosis into a university, a machine of knowledge.

Untitled (1997-1998) by Emilio VedovaUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

In Vedova we find a committed, politicized artist who, resisting any kind of affectation or domestication, displays his energy through the strength of his brush strokes.

Practically an exercise of exorcism, a psychoanalytic therapy.

Untitled (2005-2006) by Frederic AmatUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

In this work by Frederic Amat the letters of our university’s name seem to emerge in the midst of a strange flowering, of vegetation made of the smooth black of Indian ink and of the types of printing on Mediterranean blue.

As if the printed page of a book had been jostled, ruffled to burst in a kind of fireworks, taking flight like a flock of birds.

The stairway of knowledge (2016) by Alfonso AlzamoraUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

Alfonso Alzamora's sculpture "L'escala de l'enteniment", donated by the Fundació Vila Casas, is the Barcelona artist’s contribution to the commemoration of the death of Ramon Llull.

It is significant that a university enjoys on its campus the presence of Ramon Llull, considered the father of the internet, because he wanted to connect the different scientific disciplines and create a grammar of knowledge.

The first big oak of Lost Valley (2013-2014) by Alexandre HollanUniversitat Pompeu Fabra. UPF Art Track

In Hollan we can find the subtlety of oriental art and the desire for formal experimentation of the avant-garde.

His works seem to be the result of spontaneous growth, the branching of life.
