By Saskia Kahn, 'Skatepark Baltimore' won the Photography Category in the Global Design Graduate Show in collaboration with Gucci 2022.
Saskia Kahn is a recent graduate from MICA Maryland Institute College of Art holding a degree in Photography. Her work celebrates young people who fight for their access to joy.
"I’m spiritually fulfilled working as a street portrait photographer because interacting with strangers makes me feel more connected to humanity."
Skaters who felt uncomfortable using the park alone realised the need to work cooperatively in order to claim this space as safe—particularly those who identified as transgender, gender-nonconforming, black-femme, women, and/or queer.
