"Jewellery is in some ways so common it is easy to overlook what a potent signifier it is, expressing our desires, evoking that which no longer exists, and signalling our affiliations with others."

Visual Media

Unlike many craft mediums which require extensive planning and methodical execution, photography offers opportunities for expression and experimentation, discovering unique vantage points, and instant visual referencing.

"In the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to spend time at the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), a natural laboratory of 58 lakes set aside for scientific research. I was one of five artists invited to Northwestern Ontario to engage with scientific research, learn more about the type of work done at ELA and find inspiration for my own practice." - Lesley Nakonechny

As a photo-based artist I work with ideas generated from lived experience using different photographic technologies and materials. My practice for the past 10 years has centered on exploring various ways memory, place and loss impact identity.
