A Tour of Multan's Hussain Agahi Bazaar

As you walk around the market, it is clear to see that Hussain Agahi is a hub for all things associated with Multani culture and local traditions. The bazaar is located in the heart of the old city where traditional hand embroidered fabrics and block-printed Multani fabrics take center stage.

At first glance the bazaar presents a vibrant and sometimes festive atmosphere that contains narrow alleyways filled with vendors and customers jostling for space.

Traditional embroidery can be found here on fabrics, shawls and handbags and it is evident that a whole cottage industry - consisting of mainly women of the neighboring villages of Multan district - produces these items in great quantity for the Agahi Hussain market shop, providing locals and outsiders easy access with a whole array of goods at reasonable rates.

Food too plays an important role in this vista, with street food carts adding to the mix of buying and selling. Whilst the bazaar deals mainly with clothing and fabrics, you will find eateries and sweet shops squeezed in between other shops. Here one can see a rice and lentils (daal chawal) stall vendor ready to serve hungry customers.

The geographical centrality of the bazaar in the old city can be seen by the close proximity of the famous shrines of the city. Multan’s famous Ghanta Ghar is also just a stone-throw away.
