Ciesay of Places+Faces: Linking Global Communities

Imran Ciesay (best known simply as Ciesay) is the founder of global lifestyle brand, PLACES + FACES. With its beginnings as a photography blog, Ciesay first began to use PLACES+FACES as a platform to navigate live shows and parties. Armed with his camera, he captured the likes of A$AP Rocky and Kanye West, alongside a generation of young club kids.

The PLACES+FACES name has evolved into a brand in its own right, with a stream of apparel drops, as well as remaining the collective force behind international parties, events, exhibitions and collaborations with likeminded global partners.

Here Ciesay tells us why Lagos is so exciting

How did you get your start in the creative world?
We started in 2013, myyself and my partner Solomon, we started as photographers. And we were just travelling, shooting the favourite artists that we like. And from there we started making clothing, started throwing events.

What is exciting about Lagos right now?
I feel like the streetwear scene is pretty strong. Anyone who has access to the internet can create their own brand and change their life. It’s not necessarily about being in one specific place anymore, it doesn’t really matter necessarily where you’re from, but everyone builds a community.
