1st: 1997

With the theme We Are Many in Many Professions, the first GLT (Gays, Lesbians, and Transvestites) Parade, as it was then known, attracted around 2,000 people to Paulista Avenue in downtown São Paulo, which became the main location for the event each year.

2nd: 1998

With the theme I Want to Show My Face—I Pay Taxes Too, support for the event's second year came from the São Paulo Association for the GLBT Pride Parade (Associação da Parada do Orgulho GLBT de São Paulo). This non-governmental organization would go on to organize the march every year.

The acronym GLBT, including the B representing bisexual people, was adopted from the event's third year. In 2009, it would change again to LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestites, and Transexuals, in the language of the LGBT+ community at the time).

In its 24th year, the event—which had the theme of democracy—was forced online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and featured shows, art, debates, and literature.

In this photo, the Global Rainbow light show created by the artist Yvette Mattern beams out the seven colors of the rainbow. The lights, which represented the LGBT Pride March that year, were visible nearly 40 miles away.

With COVID-19 infections still high, the 25th year of the event again had to be held online. The organizers still put on a full program of entertainment, based on the theme of HIV and AIDS: Love More, Care More, Live More.
