Life-sized Korean Standard Body Type

Size Korea provides a database of Korean human body standard information necessary for designing products and living spaces that are convenient for Koreans to use. The standard body type is defined as the average body shape to which the arithmetic mean is applied using a statistical method for each part of the Korean body. This data is used to compare the body of the visitor with the average body type.

This is a human-centered product that people actually want to wear with a helmet designed to save 1,000 lives, which is the annual death toll from bicycle accidents in the United States. Safety, comfort, and style are the basic concepts of the design process, and quality products are designed to the extent that they do not cause unnecessary harm to the Earth.

These items consist of a workbench, props, and design works that allow visitors to gain a sense of the history and traditions of Jeon, Byung Won, the 586th Korea master creator who has been designing bespoke suits specially tailored to individuals for over 40 years. Using personalized paper patterns that symbolize Bespoke, patchwork suits are created individually. Using personalized paper patterns that symbolize Bespoke, patchwork suits are created individually.

Personal Eyewear

People have different faces. However, glasses are only made in a narrow range of sizes, resulting in inconveniences. Breezm is a personal eyewear brand that utilizes 3D facial scanning technology to create personalized glasses based on an individual’s facial features. The glasses created consider the physical, aesthetic, and optical factors of the user. Breezm aims to minimize user inconvenience from the time of purchase to the moment of use.

Free the Beasts

Romantic Tiger was launched as the first legwear brand in Korea and offers designs from an unparalleled worldview. Outwardly, people have been tamed by society and the discerning eyes of others. However, inwardly, there still exists a primal nature within modern individuals. This concept is represented in this video where two socially restrained individuals unleash their inner beasts through a door.

House Modules

The six house modules in the Lifestyle Hall were designed in collaboration with designers Kim Yoomin and Lee Sangmin of Brand Partners with reuse in mind. After the exhibition, the house modules are dismantled and relocated to a blueberry farm in Damyang. There, they are reborn into spaces with a new purpose, serving as shade structures for farmers and storage facilities for agricultural equipment.

A reproduced installation of a renovated apartment in Seoul. Park Chanyong, a magazine editor based in Seoul and actual owner of this house, planned and designed himself for his own individual needs and taste. Park tried to improve the living function and preserve the circular layout, while focusing on materials to create a flow of thought atmosphere. The result shows an individual view and approach to interior design.

Kid’s Home

Stories and plays created by children are realized through the process of imagination, design, and execution. Petit Trianon’s Playhouse and Moving Library were created based on ideas discovered while raising a 7-year-old child, watching the child playing carefully, and playing together. In their own space, children imagine more freely, immerse themselves more deeply, and create various uses for themselves.

This chair is designed in the shape of a deer, with rounded antlers and a concave back which is safe for children to sit on. In the dark of night, the soft light can eliminate children’s anxiety, and even if the light is left on for a long time, it can be used safely by maintaining a constant low temporature.

This is a lifestyle space that interprets ‘companion’ as a member of one’s family who takes care of others rather than having others take care of it. It is a staged space that reflects this age of personalization in which companions can take various forms including pets, plants, rugs shaped like animals, and so on, serving to share emotions. This space seeks to showcase the importance of companions and companion music in daily life.

Robot Cat, Maicat

It is a lightweight robot design of a pet cat that gives a friendly impression without being unfamiliar to humans. For natural movement, the mechanical design of the joint was optimized, and the feet made of rubber not only improve friction or gripping but also make a soft and pleasant touch when touched by a person. Eyes using OLED can interact with humans by expressing the changing emotions of robots such as joy, sadness, and surprise.

A Mobile and Modular Negative Pressure Ward(KARE MCM)

This is a mobile and modular negative pressure ward that can quickly build a negative pressure medical space and system in a pandemic situation such as COVID-19. It consists of a negative pressure frame, an air tent, and functional panels to customize the space according to the function, and an integrated design that incorporates effective and safe ventilation, convenient medical treatment, stable lighting and remote control software that can easily modify the layout.

This is a multipurpose rice cooker made of wood and steel. We envisioned a wooden vessel for making rice, steaming food, and cooking a variety of other dishes using boiling water. This rice cooker is the realization of our imagination. Sometimes a wooden lid is used to seal the cooker, but here it is replaced by an embossed steel one, which also allows it to be used as an induction-compatible cooker.

These days, there is worldwide concern over environmental problems due to climate change and viruses. As plant-based cosmetics and sanitizers manufacturers, we imagined a brand that can change the world by changing what we can do, little by little, like habits. The meaning of '1+1=0' is that the more our products are used, the more skin problems will disappear with less non-recyclable waste left behind.

With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the surplus protective clothing that was not used and was left unattended has been upcycled into lighting, bean bags, and rugs to offer new value. With the emphasis on 'Cuteness is a shortcut to success', the protective clothing that symbolizes difficult times has been transformed into cheerful and cute designs that have soft cushioned modules, ribbons, and chubby hands.

Color Bath Effect refers to the phenomenon in which objects with certain color gets to stand out by focusing on that color. This phenomenon often occurs when we focus on a particular topic or concept and perceive the environment based on that criterion. Plastic Ark and 308 Art Crew hope that the theme of ‘environment’ will take a deeper root in our minds through experiencing colors with the artworks at the exhibition.

Chemical substances disguised as convenience have a long-lasting negative effect on human life. Spore Korea’s mushroom mycelium-based material has a sustainable life cycle that uses agricultural waste to make  packages and products and returns to soil after use. Coffins and pots designed using this material suggest the meaning and value of returning humans and plants to nature in their final moments.

Sentem is a naturalistic herbal lifestyle brand that proposes health habits that return the body’s system to a natural level based on pure ingredients derived from soil. This exhibition presents poetic prescriptions with eight herbal ingredients and objects that metaphors for healthy wishes in daily life. There is a total of three spaces in which visitors can seek herbal ingredients that fit their preferences amid the nurturing autumn mood.

A collaboration between TIGERLILY and Hwajeopdo presents an exhibition titled 'Island Hopping' where the enigmatic world of TIGERLILY’s narrative journeys alongside the natural elements of Hwajeopdo, create a dynamic showcase reminiscent of traveling through islands. The theme 'Island Hopping' visually captures the experience of journeying through the worlds of TIGERLILY and Hwajeopdo, offering participants new perspectives and inspiration.

The Circle of Life

Riding a bicycle is believed to have zero environmental impacts, but in reality bicycles are not 100% carbon footprint-free. This is due to the emissions generated in the manufacturing, distribution, and disposal of bikes. In this piece inspired by Dakkom’s wind chime, old bicycle helmets are upcycled to hold plants and encased in knotted macrame flower pot hangers in a helix, depicting the infinite circle of life within the nature.

The way individuals balance their desires and the reality of life is different for everyone, such as getting up and going to work/school after waking up in the morning, waiting for lunchtime, or continuing personal time after work/school to pursue appointments or hobbies. These individual behaviors that balance personal desires and the reality of life are developed according to the flow of work hours and given space and are portrayed through characters and scenes.

Scentwalk designed a special scent for the 2023 Gwangju Design Biennale. This scent consists of a fragrance that is fresh and natural, while at the same time, gentle, refined, and mysterious. Scent design in an exhibition space is sensory involving the sense of smell, and uses specific scents to reinforce the identity and experience of an exhibition. This can play a major role in  instilling new and colorful memories and emotions to the visitor.
