Thanks to its botanical richness, the park offers different experiences and sensations, being a multifunctional place with possibilities for different activities.
Flower meadows
The flower meadows are spread over several spots of the park, covering up to 9000 mq. The variety chosen for those meadows are several type of field flowers, in their most decorative veersion.
The meadows are seeded with a mix of different species, easily seen in our countryside. Thanks to the seeds of wilt flowers fallen on the soil, the field will be able to regenerate by itslef for the new season.
In the blooming period, shapes and color of flowers are ever-changing: a truly unique scene in Milan. Among the speciest you can see: Borage, Carnation, Gypsophila and Poppy.
Aromatic plants gardens
Dutch designer Petra Blaisse chose to give some space also to fields of aromatic plants. Those areas are usually triangle-shaped.
Those plants with their delightful scents, can be found in couples, ofter paired with different varieties.
Among the species chosen one can find: mugwort, nepeta, marjoram and perovskia, whose small purple-toned flowers gathered in long spikes are reminiscent of lavender flowers.
In optimal climatic conditions, perovskia - or russian sage - keeps flowering until late November, giving a touch of color to the park even when the other species are withering.
Aquatic plants garden
The BAM pond is home to a real aquatic ecosystem. The blooms of rushes, water irises and water lilies favor the arrival of small animals that habitually frequent these habitats such as mallards.
Shrub gardens
Another recurring element of the park are the shrub gardens, where color is the protagonist almost in every season, with early flowering such as Viburnum.
In spring the Ajuga reptans creates a purple sea.
Perennial plants gardens by Piet Oudolf
Biblioteca degli Alberi features the intervention of one of the greatest contemporary landscape architects, the Dutch Piet Oudolf, whose perennial gardens occupy more than 20,000 m2 in the park.
The plants - almost 80,000! - are divided into evergreen and stripping. The grasses that serve as the base are joined by large patches of perennials such as asters, irises and geraniums.
