A Watershed Forest Reserve

The Tumaga River, whose headwater is within the park’s boundaries, is an important river system in Zamboanga City that serves as the main supplier of domestic water for the nearby communities.

A contiguous block of old and secondary growth mixed dipterocarp forest covers almost 90% of the park’s area. Dominant species include Shorea contorta, S. negrosensis, S.
polysperma, S. palosapis, S. almon and Parashorea malaanonan.

The Park is a Key Biodiversity Area and an Important Bird Area

Threatened and restricted-range species of Mindanao and Eastern Visayas Endemic Bird Area were recorded in and around the park. The threatened Mindanao Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba crinigera) and critically endangered Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi)  are among the rare species sighted in the area.
