Dimensions and Emotional States

“Emptiness” by Kamolpan Chotvichai

Emptiness (2012) by Kamolpan ChotvichaiArt Centre Silpakorn University

This digital print by Kamolpan Chotvichai is meticulously created with the process unique to the artist, using the paper cut out technique to form a variety of shapes and dimensions.

The artist opts for a digital print artwork to present her own body in black and white, prompting personal stories and emotions to show through.

This form of art allows the artist to precisely execute every detail as demonstrated on the motion, hair strands, and skin textures.

The intricate work of paper cut art is done to neatly lay down each individual line in the way that goes harmoniously with the shapes of the body.

Through concentration, determination, and patience, the textures of the paper are created, similar to a process of self-reflection.

Each piece of paper is cut, composed in the way that it is naturally weighed down by gravity, and formed into unique shapes.

The black and white scheme also accentuates the artwork.

To channel all emotions emerging while making the art, the unconventional shapes are featured in a simplistic yet innovative approach, making “Emptiness” a more distinctive piece of art that allows the artist’s feeling to be communicated to those who see it.
