Traditional Oromo Meal (2022) by Abel GashawVisit Oromia
Maaddii
Family and friends gather around the Finjaala (table) on which the Qorii (a wooden food container), the Cuccoo, and Qabee (containers for mil) are placed. The main course will be the Marqaa (porridge) in the Qorii, while the two other items have milk and yoghurt inside.
Dhandhamsisuu (to offer someone a taste of the dish) is a common practice and is seen here with the woman dressed in the Gujii Oromo traditional outfit (on the left) offering a bite of the Marqaa porridge to the man using a Fal’aana Gaafa - a spoon made out of animal horn. The woman dressed in the white Hararghe Oromo traditional outfit (on the far right) holds a Geeba - a traditional cup.
Women dressed in the Arsi and Hararghe Oromo traditional outfits taste the Marqaa using the traditional spoon - Fal’aana.

Marqaa
One of the most popular Oromo dishes, Marqaa, is a barley-based porridge with subtle flavors that are enhanced by the addition of aromatic spices and the very delicious Oromo butter - dhadhaa.
Marmaree
Marmaree (literally "round and round") is a popular snack in southeastern Oromia where it is made from wheat flour and is dipped into clarified butter for a more intense flavor.
