About Japan House São Paulo

The institution

With a project by the renowned japanese architect Kengo Kuma, in partnership with the São Paulo office FGMF Arquitetos, the house located in the Bela Vista neighborhood has a privileged space of 2,600m², filled with exhibitions and events that change frequently, in addition to shops, coffee, restaurant, library and seminar rooms.

Built by a team of five japanese craftsmen specialized in the art of inserting noble wood extracted from sustainable management, the facade is 36 meters wide, 11 meters high and over six tons of Hinoki - coming exclusively from Japan.

Inside, there are no fixed walls separating the rooms, facilitating communication between them - which happens through large sliding doors, called fusuma in traditional japanese architecture, which delimit rooms when closed, or create wider spaces if kept open.

Mirai Flavor Coffee

On the ground floor, in addition to the exhibition area, Japan House São Paulo presents Mirai Flavor Coffee, which adds to the visitor's experience, going beyond gastronomy, and reinforces the japanese precept of the spirit of Kodawari, a concept of professionalism and care for the products and services offered.

On the first floor, the Furoshiki store is installed, specializing in items from the ancient Japanese art of tying fabrics, in addition to the seminar rooms, which host lectures, workshops, debates and events that expand and reinforce the exchange of knowledge between Brazil and Japan.

Showcasing japanese gastronomic diversity, the menu mixes balanced preparations between hot and cold recipes using local products from the countryside and the sea, based on extensive research work and curation of ingredients, producers and suppliers.

Inauguration: May 6, 2017;
Size: approximately 2.600m² of usable space, spread over a ground floor and two floors;
Environments: external and internal garden, two exhibition spaces, environment for events and lectures, library, restaurant, cafeteria and shops;
Accumulated visitation: 2.798.993 - until January 2023.

From 2017 to date, more than forty exhibitions have been exhibited at JHSP.
