Engraved legacy

In the heart of Oaxaca, Abril González carves into wood the hidden narratives of brave and disruptive women in life and sports.

Wood and ink

On fine wooden plates, Abril 'sculpts', detail by detail, different stories: of nature, protest, love, and demons, each one unique and significant in its own way.

Painting legacies

After the design is sculpted on the wood, the pieces are colored with typographic ink – the same kind used in newspapers. They are placed on paper to transfer the design and then inserted into the press, which finally fixes the image.

Indomitable'

With this piece, Abril says that she wanted to capture in her art a relationship that is extremely significant to her: the one she has with bicycles.

Courage on wheels

The inspiration comes from her grandmother, who was a totally disruptive woman and the first to dare to ride a bicycle in her town. She faced criticism because it was frowned upon for women. She was only 14 years old.

Fight like a woman'

A work, inspired by traditional Mexican wrestling, that challenges preconceptions. Abril reinterprets the phrase, showcasing the power and resilience innate in femininity.

Women who fight

Being a woman means being strong and fighting in a different way. This work emphatically establishes that being a woman is not an insult but a triumph.
