Daniel Obasi is an art director, photographer and stylist based in Lagos. His work tends to be characterised by a certain idealism given to Afrocentric concepts; whimsical, soft yet powerfully contrasting with sharp silhouettes, colours and stories. He explores subject matter like sexuality, masculinity, beauty, cultural symbolism, Afrocentric fantasy and human relations.

Tell us about the creative scene in Lagos
The creative scene here is very beautiful, it’s kind of young as well. People are coming into their element and trying to make something for ourselves.

What is unique about the creative landscape here in Nigeria?
A lot of us our self taught – I think that’s key to the creative scene here. You see a lot of young people going out of their way to learn by themselves.

What might surprise people about Lagos?
Lagos is a very energetic and bustling city where you can discover anything. And people discover themselves in Lagos in a very beautiful way.

Founded in 2017, Homecoming is an annual festival of cultural exchange between Africa and the world. Held in Lagos, Nigeria, Homecoming puts a spotlight on African talent – from its up and comers to its biggest stars in Music, Fashion, Art, and Culture. Beyond the annual festival moment, Homecoming focuses its efforts on uniting a global community of musicians, artists, designers and creatives, through collaborations and partnerships between these trailblazers and international brands, institutions and thought leaders.
