Within the current production of Mexican handicrafts
Miniatures occupy an important place, because in addition to the fact that we have examples in almost all the artisan branches that are traditionally worked in Mexico, in their elaboration our artisans flaunt a surprising creativity.

The commercial exchanges of the time
They were an important factor in increasing its production since the upper class of New Spain demanded miniatures that arrived in Mexico from both the East and some European countries.
Craft Branch?
Although most agree in considering them as a branch within craft production, some conceptualize it as a sub-branch, since the materials involved in craft creation are used in their production.
Materials:
In addition to lead, wood, clay, carboard, tin, copper and wire are used to reproduce household objects, such as shingle cupboards full of dishes, and household items, braziers and stoves.
In the colonial era, new techniques and materials arrived that, when adopted and mastered by mexican artisans, enriched the already lon-standing production of miniatures.
Miniatures or toys?
When referring to miniatures one cannot fail to mention toys, since some are so small that they can be classified as miniatures. In this, some researchers claim that the difference lies in the thoroughness of the finish.

Collectibles
In the case of miniatures in general, the role of collector is important, since apart from keeping them in optimal conditions, they contribute with their demand so that some artisans, although on a smaller scale, continue to make them.
