Conception
Lauren’s drawings begin with a grid. Memories of needlework and rugs are influences. Jolie starts with a pinch pot or slab. A slab is enhanced by a carved image. Pots become vases, ginger jars, or bowls.

The light from the candle which the woman holds illuminates her face and neck. The curtain is imprinted with a hydrangea leaf picked from Jolie's backyard in Rhode Island.
Connection
Lauren uses layers of colors, shapes, and line which are reminiscent of khatchkars (memorial stones) and manuscript paintings from her Armenian heritage. Jolie often inscribes phrases from literary sources on her vessels, encouraging the viewer's gaze to linger.
