Carefully examined, this composition of geometric forms in various colors reveals itself to be an apartment building. In contrast to the vividly colored exterior walls, the windows are all black, suggesting the invisible internal darkness and daily life in modern society. The Mondrian-like colored surface composition, cardboard paper applied in several places, and pebbling on the surface attest to Insho's attempts to incorporate new materials into Nihon-ga, as if in tune with the post-war trends in Western painting.
