In 1992, Milton Bradley, as a division of Hasbro, manufactured the board game It from the Pit, an action/horror/race game with one dramatic motorized feature. Each player has four explorer pawns which move, by rolls of the dice, toward the winning reward of treasure. But the game's central character is a battery-operated "monster" mostly submerged beneath a bubbling pool. Once turned on, the monster's clawed hand continually grabs at random pawns, removing them from play as the whole center section of the game rotates. The action is surprisingly fast and players must roll the dice quickly to avoid the menacing hand. The early 1990s were rife with horror films such as "Alien 3," and It from the Pit seems to fit right into its era. Initially targeted towards children, the game has found new fans among serious gamers looking for a quick and humorous break between more serious play.
