New York game manufacturer Clark & Sowdon produced "The Game of Rough Riders" in 1898, the year that Theodore Roosevelt and his troup of volunteer Rough Riders fought and won the battle of San Juan Hill in Cuba. Roosevelt, already something of a celebrity, cemented his fame and went on to become President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Clark & Sowdon's game obviously built on Roosevelt's famous name as well as that of his troup. The game doubtless appealed to boys.
