In 1982, Atari released Millipede- the sequel to the 1980 Atari classic Centipede. The game is played with a trackball and one firing button, and the object is to destroy all segments of a giant millipede before it reaches the bottom of the screen. Although the gameplay of Millipede is similar to Centipede, several new elements were added. The most notable difference is the number of new enemies that players must fight against. Another addition is a DDT bomb capable of destroying all enemies within its proximity. While not nearly as popular as its predecessor, Millipede was ported to several home computer and game systems, including: the Atari 2600 and Atari home computers. Versions for Nintendo Entertainment System, Gameboy, and Xbox 360 have also been developed. It is available on Games for Windows Live, an online gaming service for their PC, as well.
