but a time will come that Drechsler will be the first to send her to the gas. And in that regard, I hadn’t the slightest doubt. I started to speak. Edek, saying the word “attached”, did not want to use the word – love. This was a love, one to which he did not want to admit. To be certain, I asked if Mala was aware of our plan to escape. He said that, actually, she does not know about it, but he would like to propose that she takes part in the escape. He had an idea that was easy to carry out. Edek would be the escort; Mala and I will be the prisoners, who he would be leading to the Buna Kommando. So, Mala will be disguised as a man. With little trouble, Mala will be able to aquire the pasierschein. She simply has access to the blockführerstube, and while there, well known to the SS-men, she will steal a pass without suspicion. The plan was not bad, but I had my worries. Can a woman who is, additionally, frail and suffering from relapses of malaria, able to cope and able to succeed in this undertaking? In order to get to the mountains, you must march with a rapid pace for around 30 km. Just outside the camp, she could be recognized as a woman. Can we count on people for help, those who will recognize her Semitic heritage, etc. Edek did not allow himself to be convinced and said that if you truly want, you can overcome anything. On this, our conversation ended. SMA-B. Collection of Testimonies: t.9, k.102-103
