This wall hanging-cum-coverlet has a central rectangle filled with a variety of ornate geometric motifs with two densely embroidered floral panels- one on top and another at the bottom. The prominent geometrically stylised floral motif occuring in the borders and the cross-bands of the central rectangle, known as kol-phul is typical of embroideries of several communities of Kathiawad (Saurashtra). One typical feature of floss-silk Kathi embroidery is the creation of lozenges with long-running stitch. When such lozenges are alternated with vertical and horizontal stitches they create and illusion of light and dark shades.
