Flight Jacket

Aviators and aircrew members often decorated their flight jackets. This leather jacket belonged to Roy Frederick Bach, who served as a radioman with squadron VB-14. This squadron was briefly attached to the aircraft carrier Intrepid during World War II.

A VB-14 insignia patch is stitched to the front of the jacket. The Japanese writing on the back of the jacket roughly translates to “Roy Frederick Bach,” written in three columns, with the date 1945 at the bottom. Bach likely had the jacket personalized while on liberty in Japan.
