Among the finest large, faceted Burmese rubies known, this stone displays a richly saturated homogenous red color, combined with an exceptional degree of transparency. The stone was mined from the fabled Mogok region of Burma in the 1930s. The Carmen Lucia Ruby is a 23.10-carat ruby set in a platinum ring, and flanked by two triangular diamonds, totaling 2.38 carats. The ruby is named after Carmen Lucia Buck, whose husband, Dr. Peter Buck, donated the ring to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in 2004, in memory of his wife.
