    QUEEN LAUNCHES BRITAIN'S GIANT TANKER "BRITISH ADMIRAL" ODS H3449 17.3.1965. THE 100,000-TON "BRITISH ADMIRAL", THE LARGEST TANKER YET BUILT IN EUROPE, WAS LAUNCHED FOR BRITISH PETROLEUM AT THE VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS YARD AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS THIS MORNING. IT WAS LAUNCHED BY HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN. THE GIANT TANKER, 917 FT. 6 IN. LONG, IS THE FIRST OF TWO 100,000-TON DEADWEIGHT TANKERS BEING BUILT FOR THE B.P. TANKER COMPANY - THE SECOND IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT SWAN HUNTER AND WIGHAM RICHARDSON ON THE TYNE. SO GREAT IS THE SIZE OF THE VESSEL THAT TWO BERTHS WERE RE-BUILT INTO A SINGLE BERTH TO ACCOMMODATE IT. PHOTO SHOWS: THE GREAT EMPTY SPACE LEFT BY THE GIANT 100,000-TON TANKER "BRITISH ADMIRAL"AFTER THE LAUNCHING AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS THIS MORNING.
