New maps of the ocean floor

The SONNE's modern echo sounders allow researchers to get completely new insights into the deep sea. Even at a depth of 4,200 meters, they provide such high-quality images that you can recognize ground structures of up to 30 meters in size. The water column data is detailed enough, for example, to map methane leaks on the ocean floor.
