At the end of November 1922 – Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics just a few days before – the question of Einstein’s national affiliation arises with unexpected urgency. Travelling in Japan, the laureate is unable to receive the award in person, on 10 December 1922, in Stockholm. Who will be the official representative to attend in his stead ?
