10c Salem Poor stamp

Four commemorative stamps honoring unheralded persons who played important roles in the American Revolution were issued March 25, 1975, at four separate locations. The first-day sale cities were Carmel, New York - 8-cent Sybil Ludington; Chicago, Illinois — 10-cent Haym Salomon; Cambridge, Massachusetts - 10-cent Salem Poor; and Greensboro, North Carolina - 18-cent Peter Francisco. A descriptive text was printed on the reverse of each stamp. Three of the stamps were for postal rates effective in the United States, Canada, and Mexico - eight cents for post cards and ten cents for surface letters. Eighteen cents was the surface letter rate and airmail post card rate beyond the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Neil Boyle designed the stamps, which were issued in sheets of fifty, with initial printings of the 8-cent Ludington — fifty-five million; the 10-cent Solomon — 140 million; the 10-cent Poor — 140 million; and the 18-cent Francisco — forty million.
