Kiki Smith’s artistic examination is characterized by an intensive engagement with the body—“our common denominator,” as she herself outlines. untitled comprises 12 bottles made of silver-coated and reflective glass. Each object is etched with the name of a different body fluid, written in Gothic lettering. At the same time, the labels suggest imaginative contents of empty bottles and refer to the spectator as the essential possessor of these essences. Kiki Smith’s work connects projection surface and resonating body of object and subject. The artist was inspired by medieval Christian books of hours which provided a new spiritual approach to life for every hour.
