This Transitional style shophouse is one of the numerous developments marking the urbanisation of Joo Chiat during the inter-war period and was the premises of a neighbourhood bookshop – the Lucky Book Store.
Restored for residential use, the long-eroded façade was reinstated according to the building’s original design while the bookshop’s faded signage at the five foot way was retained as a nostalgic reminder to the building’s previous use. By preserving elements unique to the heritage of the building, the project has made the street more interesting.
