The unique strip of three 13-cent Missionaries, types I-II-I, on this triple rate cover illustrate the arrangement of the two typeset cliches. The stamps received red sugar cane cancellations and a Honolulu February 20, 1852 circular datestamp in addition to the "paid" handstamp and "18" rate manuscript marking. In 1905, a workman salvaged this envelope, written by William Dawson, with other old letters from the charred remains inside a furnace in an abandoned tannery. Sometime before World War II, the stamps were restored and repainted.
