Close view of the base of a giant fir tree in the process of being chopped down by loggers. A crevass has been carved into the center of the tree's base, and a logger is reclining within it on his left side. On either side of the tree, two loggers wearing wide brimmed hats, dark trousers, light shirts, and suspenders, pose with their axes stuck into the tree's bark, and arms akimbo. They are standing on wooden planks held in place within carved-out niches in the tree's base. Below the loggers on the forest floor is a pile of wood chips -- evidence of their painstaking work.
