New Orleans, United States

View of ironclad Confederate submarine with nine men seated on the ground in front of the vessel, one leaning against it, and eight sitting on top. Just beyond is a waterway, possibly Bayou St. John; on the opposite shore are buildings, a picket fence, and small boats. The unidentified Confederate submarine was found in Lake Pontchartrain near Bayou St. John. Once believed to be the CSS Pioneer, the vessel does not match the CSS Pioneer's schematics. This early Civil War era submarine has been conserved and is currently on display at the Louisiana State Museum - Baton Rouge.
