In 1933, an unemployed radiator repairman in Philadelphia named Charles Darrow created his own version of an exciting game, adding Atlantic City street names. Darrow sold his version, which he named Monolpoly, to Parker Brothers in 1935. This “Trade Mark” edition was released in 1935 before the company held the game’s patent. In just two years, Parker Brothers sold more than two million copies of the game. The game remains popular today, and for many is an early introduction to the world of investing, buying, selling, and bankruptcy. The Monopoly game is featured in a display exploring games of risk and reward.
