The first FA Cup Final after the Second World War took place between Derby County and Charlton Athletic.
The 98,000 crowd waited eighty-five minutes for a goal, then two came along at once. Charlton's Bert Turner put the ball in his own net, but made amends at the other end within a minute, taking the game into extra time. A Peter Doherty strike and a Jackie Stamps brace sealed victory for the Rams.
