A born goalscorer, centre-forward Tommy Lawton was an aerial threat and a prolific marksman at every one of his seven clubs, and would have netted considerably more were it not for the Second World War.
At the age of just 20, he fired Everton to the First Division title in 1939, and was a frequent name on the scoresheet thereafter for the likes of Chelsea and Notts County.
He averaged a goal a game for his country when taking wartime football into account - 22 goals in 23 official games, and 24 goals in 23 wartime appearances.
