Left hand front view of 1949 Morris Commercial LC3U 1 ton truck, an example of a maintenance and service vehicle from the 1950s. Morris Commercial Cars Limited was a British manufacturer formed by William Morris, the founder of Morris Motors Ltd. William Morris purchased several assets from E.G.Wrigley and Company when it went into liquidation in 1923. In 1936 Morris sold the company into Morris Motors Ltd, but the brand name continued until 1968, when Morris' parent company Austin merged with the Leyland Motor Corporation.

  • Provenance: This LC3U commercial truck was fitted as a service and maintainence vehicle. Used by the South Australian Gas Company the vehicle was designed to clean and empty water laden gas pipes. Water was a by-product of coal gas that needed to be removed from the system periodically. The introduction of Natural Gas in the 1970s meant that the service of this vehicle was no longer required. It was donated to the Museum by Origin Energy (formerly SAGASCO).
