This is the cap awarded to Stanley Matthews for his appearance against Spain at the 1950 FIFA World Cup.
Relatively out of favour in the eyes of Walter WInterbottom, who preferred defensive wingers, Matthews would be restricted to this one solitary outing at the World Cup. He did not feature in victory over Chile or the shock defeat against the USA.
He did, however, feature in a similar capacity at the 1954 World Cup, and would later become the oldest player to represent England at the age of 42.
