Front view. The Land Rover is a four-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle manufactured by the Rover Car Company of Solihull, England. Inspired by the US built Willys Jeep, the Land Rover originally referred to one vehicle, but later became attributed to several models.
Originally marketed for farm and light industrial use the Series 1 Land Rover entered production in 1948 and was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show. In mid-1956 the wheelbases were extended to 88 inches and to accommodate a diesel engine the front chassis cross-member was moved an inch forward. These dimensions were used on all Land Rovers for the next 25 years.
