CA72 was the first-generation advanced car in China, and was finalized and put into production in 1959. Design team referred to the advanced technology of American cars, but integrated Chinese elements to internal and external decoration: The sector shape of folding fan was utilized for the front grille, tail lights were designed by referring to traditional palace lanterns, while internal ornamentation integrated the characteristics of Chinese folk arts and crafts such as Fujian Lacquer and Hangzhou Brocade, among others. CA72 was used for national and foreign affairs on a regular basis. This car was one of the ten prototypes exhibiting in the Tiananmen Square in 1959.
