Front and left hand side view. The Ford XK Falcon symbolises the beginning of an Australian icon. Based on American designs, the XK is essentially a right hand drive version of the American Falcon. It was available as a sedan, station wagon, utility and panel van and introduced the option for automatic transmission a year before its competitor, Holden, made this available. Its design was considered much more modern than its direct competitor the Holden FB series. However, its reputation was tarnished by an engineering fault in the front suspension. Through clever advertising and improvements to the manufacturing Ford was able to recover and the Falcon became a success. Ford concluded manufacturing the Falcon in 2016, making the model one of the longest continuing in motoring history.
