Front and left hand side view. Grey four door sedan with silver front grille. The Valiant series was in production from 1961 until 1981. Initially manufactured in Australia by Chrysler and then for one year by its successor Mitsubishi Australia. The first Valliant’s in Australia were the United States’ Plymouth Valiant, which were locally assembled and rebadged. By 1963 the Valiant was fully manufactured in Australia.
The ‘S’ series was introduced in 1962 and was assembled at Chrysler’s Mile End factory in South Australia. The design was slightly different from the predecessors, featuring a revised grille with the script ‘Valiant’ at the top, larger fuel tank and a corrosion-resistant exhaust muffler. The floor-mounted gear shift was also replaced with a steering-column mounted shift.
