In a closely-fought tie, Preston twice gained the upper hand, only for the Hammers to peg them back quickly on both occasions. Ron Greenwood's men would snatch victory at the death, Ronnie Boyce's last-minute header affording West Ham the first of their three FA Cup triumphs to date.
