The 1970 Coppa del Mondo is often referred to as the first Women's World Cup, though it was not sanctioned by FIFA. Instead, the tournament was organised by FIEFF (Federazione Internazionale Europea Football Femminile) and sponsored by Martini & Rossi.
The poster promotes an 8th July fixture between Czechoslovakia and Denmark, but the Czechs pulled out before the tournament began, as the team was reportedly refused a visa to travel to the Western Bloc. The same issues occurred prior to the 1971 Women's World Cup.
The seven remaining teams played in front of sizeable crowds, with Denmark defeating the hosts 2-0 in the final. The success of the tournament inspired the creation of a second Women's World Championship, taking place in Mexico the following year.
