1979 League Cup final programme

This programme hails from the 1979 Football League Cup Final, which saw holders and reigning First Division champions Nottingham Forest up against Southampton.

The Saints took the lead in a topsy-turvy game through David Peach, but a Gary Birtles double turned the tide in Forest's favour. Tony Woodcock's strike seven minutes from time looked to have secured victory, but Nick Holmes pulled one back to ensure a nervy finish.

Forest held on to lift the trophy, and though they could only finish as runners-up to Liverpool in the league, they did clinch the European Cup two months later.
