Front and left-hand side view of 1984 Holden RB Gemini. Manufactured by General Motors-Holden Australia from 1975 to 1986 the Gemini is a compact car based on the Japanese Isuzu Gemini. It became a popular second car for Australian families during the 1970s boom in car ownership. The RB was introduced to the public in 1985, but had the lowest production in the Gemini series with sales just totalling 16,263 units.

- Provenance: This particular vehicle is known as the ‘80 Day Endurathon Car’. Using this car General Motors-Holden demonstrated that the new Gemini maintains the series legendary reliability by completing an 80 day/80 night non-stop marathon run of more than 200,000 kilometres - the equivalent to more than 13 years of motoring. Eighty drivers were rostered to keep the vehicle rolling 24 hours a day at Holden’s Proving Ground in Lang Lang, Victoria. The car cruised at an average speed of 107.2 kilometres per hour only stopping for petrol, driver changes and the routine services as per the Owners Handbook. Peter Brock officially completed the test and is recorded saying “From Holden’s point of view it was an outstanding success. It re-affirms the quality in Gemini - its legendary reliability – which is being sought today particularly by women.” One of the first RB’s to roll off the assembly line the 80 Day Endurathon Car was fitted with extras including a roo bar, driving lights, air conditioning, a cassette player and a Telecom mobile telephone.
